Visiting the Science Mill

The Science Mill is a family destination offering a fun, interactive learning environment for all ages. Through cutting-edge technology-based exhibits, games, and programs, the Science Mill expands students' understanding and appreciation of science in their everyday lives. By igniting their curiosity and inspiring them to pursue post-secondary education, the Science Mill experience starts students on the path to a life-long career in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The Science Mill is located in Johnson City, Texas, approximately an hour from either Austin or San Antonio. You can find comprehensive directions here.

For fall, our hours are:
Wednesday-Saturday 10:00am-4:00pm
Sunday 12:00pm-4:00pm
Monday & Tuesday CLOSED
The museum may also be closed during certain holidays or private events. Please check our latest announcements, or follow us on social media to stay up to date!

General admission tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Admission includes access to all exhibits, daily activities, and the movie theater.

Ages 3-17 — $9.50
Adult (Ages 18-64) — $11.00
Seniors (Ages 65+) — $9.00
Members — FREE unlimited admission (use code SCIENCE at checkout when purchasing online — membership will be verified at the admissions desk upon arrival)
Military Discount: HALF-PRICE admission for any active or retired military service member and up to three other family members with a valid military ID.

Yes! Ample free street parking is available in front of the Science Mill on Lady Bird Lane and across Main Street around the Johnson City town square. More parking available in our Science Mill parking lot, west of the museum.

Expect to be surprised! Our museum is home to over 50 interactive STEM exhibits designed to indulge your curiosity. Unique exhibits like the Light Loom, Mindball, the Fractalarium, and the Aquaponic Greenhouse are favorites. Our BioLab is home to some fascinating critters like an axolotl, chameleon, and poison dart frogs, while our Science & Art Park features the iconic Colossal Robotic Hand, the Food Forest, and a lot more. The main building of the Science Mill is wheelchair accessible, but most of the Science & Art Park is not. Certified service animals are also welcome, as long as they are leashed and under the owner’s control.
A family bathroom is available at the premises for your convenience.

Yes, all museum content is available in both English and Spanish.

Our onsite cafe, Lady Bird Lane Cafe, is open Wednesday - Saturday 10:30am - 2:30pm for dine-in or take-out.
For shopping, you can drop by our museum gift shop. The Science Store offers the largest selection of science toys, activity kits, games, books and gifts in the Hill Country. It’s open during museum hours (no admission required to shop) and now it’s online, too!

Yes, we do! Science Mill field trips are supported by a TEKS-aligned guide to help tailor your visit to students’ learning goals and curriculum. Add-on experiences like Learning Labs by grade level and a Cross-Curricular Trip to the LBJ National Historical Park are also available. Learn more about field trips here.

The Science Mill prides itself on a year-long programming that nurtures interest in STEM. Aside from hosting field trips, the Science Mill offers summer STEM Immersion Camps (SCI Camps), Labs on the Go, Homeschool Days, and Professional Development for teachers.

Yes! The Science Mill is a unique Hill Country venue for any kind of celebration. You and your guests can explore 50+ interactive exhibits, watch a 3D movie, and enjoy a private room for decoration setup. There are also venue options depending on your needs.
