Students will explore the forces of gravity and friction while testing and creating a foam coaster!

Students work in small groups to build a roller coaster with at least one loop and one jump, demonstrating how potential energy transforms into kinetic energy!

Teams design crazy coasters (2 loops, 1 jump minimum!) to test with riders—how will gravity and friction affect each trip?

Teams will think like engineers to design a cable car that can travel across a zipline!

Teams will think like engineers to design a cable car that can travel across a zipline!

Teams will build and design a cable car that can complete different challenges!

Students get up close with real bugs (embedded in clear blocks) and use critical thinking to turn observations into classifications.

Lab-quality microscopes give students a larger-than-life look at bug anatomy to spot similarities and differences that define insects.

Students take inspiration from nanotechnology and natural specimens to sketch a prototype for a problem-solving gadget.

Students become geologists for a day as they learn the basic tools and skills to observe, describe, sort and compare rocks!

Students will test rocks and learn about the rock cycle through an interactive game!

Earth science and engineering come together! Students learn about earthquakes and create cardboard structures to be tested on a model shake table.

THE PROGRAM
  • Labs on the Go was specifically designed to be a high-quality, hands-on learning experience that takes little to no heavy lifting on your part.

All the equipment and materials needed for a challenge-based, hands-on STEM activity – ready to go right out of the box! – shipped directly to your classroom, library, or community center.

The content, which includes lesson plans, engaging videos, background information, curated prompts, and additional resources, is delivered through an easy-to-navigate learning management system.

  • We know there is no one-size-fits-all educational program, so we are happy to offer both a virtual and in-person Labs on the Go to fit your needs!

With Virtual Labs on the Go, instructors keep all materials and equipment directly shipped to them.

With In-Person Labs on the Go, equipment is brought by the Science Mill staff and is returned upon lab completion. In-Person Labs on the Go is limited to a 60-mile distance from the Science Mill. Locations further than 60 miles, up to 75 miles, will be charged an additional $25. In-Person Labs on the Go requires a 2-lab minimum order per location per date.

  • In-Person: Class pricing ($225) covers 30 students max.

Virtual: $10-12 per student, depending on grade band.

Orders need to be placed at least 21 days before the start date of your scheduled lab. Contact us at programs@sciencemill.org if you need a rush order or if you have fewer than 30 students.

  • Labs are available for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. All are museum-inspired and TEKS-aligned.
