February is all about engineering, with an emphasis on mechanical engineering, which is the construction of moving products and devices. Join us as we build prosthetic components and moving cardboard creations.
Floor Activities
Seismic Shake Up - At this station, students will learn about structural and natural hazards engineering by creating a structure and placing it on the shake table to see if it can survive an earthquake
Valentine’s LED Cards - At this pop-up, guests will craft their personalized LED Valentine’s Cards. Using a LED light and a coin cell battery, participants will illuminate their custom cards, learning how the coin cell battery powers the LED to shine brightly.
Straw Hands - Students will learn about anatomical structures in hands and mechanical engineering by creating their own straw hands
Learning Labs
K-2 Rosie Revere Engineer - Students will practice being engineers by creating inventions using household items and craft materials inspired by the book Rosie Revere Engineer (SOLD OUT!)
3-5 It’s The Claw - Students will learn about biomechanical engineering by designing and creating their own hand prosthetic devices (SOLD OUT!)
6-12 Popular Prosthetics - Students will learn about biomechanical engineering by designing and creating their own animal prosthetics
STEM Mentorship Hour
Reimagine the Science Mill - In celebration of the Science Mill’s birthday, students will use systems-level thinking routines to design and imagine a new Science Mill
