Imagine a sustainable future for the planet with us at the Science Mill on Memorial Day Weekend! Learn about the importance of healthy soil, create a greenhouse in a bag, simulate the role of pollinators through a fun hands-on activity, and more!
floor activities
Soil…IT’S ALIVE! - In this activity, guests will explore the three main soil particle types: sand, silt, and clay. They'll calculate soil percentages to determine soil composition and grasp how these soil types are vital for successful gardening, ensuring healthy crops and plants. The activity will also highlight the importance of soil quality and its influence on agriculture and the food supply chain.
Hand Pollinators - At this station, guests will learn why bees and other pollinating insects are so important as pollinators. They'll discover the significance of these creatures in maintaining the health of ecosystems. In this hands-on activity, participants will craft their own hand pollinator, observing how their "bee" aids in pollinating flowers. Additionally, they'll learn about the symbiotic relationship between bees and flowers, understanding how they work together to help new plants grow.
Greenhouse in a Bag - At this station, guests will discover the importance of gardening and its correlation with sustainability. They will learn how gardening fosters a deeper connection with nature, reduces dependence on agriculturally demanding methods, and promotes biodiversity. Guests will have the opportunity to create their own "Greenhouse in a Bag" to take home and kickstart their personal garden journey.
