Floor Activities (10:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Pitsco Straw Rockets
Guests will design, create, and test their own straw rockets
DIY Spectroscope
Guests will create and take home their own spectroscopes that measure the spectrum of visible light
Solar Images Painting
Guests will learn about sunspots and the Sun’s atmosphere by creating a solar masterpiece using paint, water, and soap!
Learning Labs
Learning Lab (Ages 5-7): Parachuting for Probes
10:30am - 11:00am
Students will create and test different types of parachutes to land a probe safely on Earth
Learning Lab (Ages 8-10) Lunar Lava Landscapes
11:30am - 12:30pm
Students will create a model of Jupiter’s moon Io, and learn about it’s unique geographic properties
Learning Lab (Ages 11-17) Cubesat Designs
1pm - 2pm
Students will design and create their own model cubesats and learn how these tiny satellites are used for planetary research
STEM Scholar Hour - Jasmine Singh
2:30pm - 3:30pm
Jasmine Singh is an incoming UTSA PhD. student studying planetary science and will be working with the Southwest Research Institute. Jasmine will share her STEM journey with students. Students will then learn about how telescopes in space capture images using different wavelengths of light.
