Grab the whole family - and join the Science Mill as we do Science Outside! at our free family day at Selah: Bamberger Ranch Nature Preserve Education Center on Saturday, February 11th from 10 AM to 12 PM.
This will be our second family engagement event for Science Outside! While the curriculum is written for third through eighth grade students, all ages are welcome.
We will meet at the Bamberger Ranch Nature Preserve education center, 2341 Blue Ridge Dr, Johnson City, TX 78636, at 10 AM. We will then be riding out to see the beautifully restored grassland savannah, hear the Selah restoration story, learn about bats and visit the first artificial bat cave, the chiroptorium. We will learn lessons about the complexities of water conservation, visit the lake and the bat houses, and then end with a bat biosonar family activity.
Participants will receive part two of the Science Mill-Science Outside Family Engagement Guide. This guide is filled with curated questions to get the dialogue moving between you and your STEM obsessed kids, resources to help them do deep dives into all their fascinations, activities to do at home, and important information about upcoming Science Outside events. Advanced registration IS REQUIRED for this event, as spots are limited.
Accessibility note: This event does not include any long hikes but there is some walking and it is not paved. It also does include a mildly bumpy ride on the metal bench seat of the education trailer. The trailer can hold a wheelchair as long as it has proper wheel locks.
