Angela Chapman
UT Rio Grand Valley, Associate Professor of Science
Angela Chapman holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning in Science and has served as a Science/STEM Education faculty member at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (formerly UTPA) since 2013. She currently teaches undergraduate courses in STEM teacher preparation and graduate courses in STEM education. She has previously taught middle and high school science in central Florida and undergraduate biology courses at the college level. Her current research is driven by a passion to explore ways for all students to be successful – from preschool to college – in STEM classrooms. Her research has led to several peer reviewed publications including the development of Counter Praxis as a theoretical framework for STEM teachers, the role of language in learning STEM for Spanish speaking high school and undergraduate students, and the role identity plays in sustaining STEM interest.
